Ron Cooper long distance audax bike 46 x 18 = 67.5"
Lambert Proffessional varies 49 x 18 = 72" for medium gear TTs to 51 x 15 or 16 for the track
Graham Weigh 47 x 14 = 88" gear for 10 TTs
Holdsworth 46 x 20 = 62 " gear for riding with my daughterI've just geared the Graham Weigh down to 82" until I get my Ron Cooper back on the road since the Bars are twisted and a brake lever broken after a 30mph off a couple of months ago.

Ha no riding home after a TT in the pissin rain down Cudham Lane and hit a patch of diesel, skidding all over the place and decided a gravel driveway was a better bail out than a head on with the car coming up the hill.
It was a luverlee judo style breakfall but the my arse was the brake for 20 feet :) sore ride home and three days off the bike.

My first thought is that 39x14 isn't super spinny...
I run 39:15 which is around 69GI
I was previously on 81GI, yet I wouldnt call 69 spinnny.
Id say its just right on the street, after a few hours of riding it actually starts to feel pretty high.

102 x 9
yeah used to run a 207x1 but found it a little too harsh for hills

I ride singlespeed and have been umming and ahhing about whether to go from 44 / 16 / 170 to 46 or 48. I'm riding in London (from Ealing to Tottenham Court Road) and my legs were fine but my knees ached a tad however... maybe I need to stop being a pussy...
Also, I'm about to update my crank set so really to make an informed decision sharpish! So many options...

I am currently on 46/14, but i live in cambridge (flat as anything) and it suits me great, I change to 46/16 when i go back to living in london (and i live near barnet and the bugger of a hill is fine with that - have done it with 46/14 before and its a bit harder, but not impossible)

I'm rocking 42/16, which was decent for Bath and it's many, constant hills, but in Manchester it's a joke, there isn't a hill in sight, so I'm hiking it up a tad. 48/16 mebs, mebs.

42/16, need to go up to 18 though.
172.5, but that needs to change soon as i have about 3 inches of ground clearance, damn touring frame with 26" front wheel.

Gear ratios?
I don't bother with those any more, I just wash n' go.

52/18 = 75.9GI
Thinking of getting a 20t for the other side of my flip-flop for those days where I want to spin (or go up hills)

48/17. Used to run 52/16 and although fun on the open road, was sluggish for city riding. And bad on the knees.

49/16 here in Berlin but try to change to 51/17. Somebody got a 17t eai cog for sale ;)?

Yesterday I had a cold windy ride out northwest of copenhagen in a hilly area.. 46/17 that I'm currently running was pretty much okay but still had to get out of the saddle sometimes on 5-7% climbs with the wind in my face.
On my way home I hit 48kph (about 140rpm cadance) on a flat dark bikepath filled with wet fallen leaves.. pretty scary, don't think I'd want to go much faster than that brakeless. (my bicycle top speed record is about 60 going down hill on a geared bike btw.)

44:16
48:16Archi, you using 48:16 on a fixed or a singlespeed? Am thinking about this ratio for my single, would you endorse?
67.5
68
69
71
73
79 (trying this today as it's the lowest GI I can run for riding to the track without having a second, longer chain)
84
90
horses for courses. don't like anything above 71 for long journeys or riding in town.
