I bought something similar but my frame broke and I couldn't remove the thing, because obviously the idea is that once it's in, it can't be removed by thieves (or yourself).
Mine was a datatag, £20 for a tiny little transponder chip about the size of a grain of rice, with the glue to stick it to the inside of the frame, plus a few stickers and a marking kit. Looked like it was worth about 50p in total. If it helped get your bike back then it's £20 well spent, but I have no faith in the police taking bike theft seriously enough for the tag to be useful.
I also have insurance which at first I thought was better than having a datatag, but judging by the small print, insurance companies dont take bike theft seriously either.
Still, £20 one-off plus monthly insurance payments of £5 for peace of mind plus the slightly increased chance of getting your bike back (or a new bike if you don't)... probably worth it... maybe... well, definitely. Maybe. Yes.
