    During the Space race in the 60s, NASA scientists were perplexed by the problem of their astronauts not being unable to write things down with their pens due to being at zero gravity. To crack this difficult nut they set about an expensive research and development program. Some time later and over a million dollars lighter they unveiled their "astronaut pen". Now happy astronauts could record data and write down their most profound thoughts producing mankind's first space postcards to send to their families. The pens were also sold to earthlings at great expense as NASA souvenirs.

    Meanwhile, the Soviet space agency had solved its own pens-not-working-at-zero-gravity problem. They used pencils.
