Should I?

  • Ok I need some advice here, I found a Kona Paddy wagon frame(2007 i think).
Anyway the problem is there is slight damage from a collision with a car, there is a small dent in the top tube(not too worried about that) but there could be a problem with the bb, in the guys whos selling its words: "Basically in the accident, it was hit with enough force to bend the cranks and the chainring. I haven't tried to remove them, so it could be fine and no problem, or there's the chance that it's fuked and you'll have a bitch of a job getting the cranks off!"

So for€80 what ya think?(considering I dont have much money)

  • no.

  • no x 2

  • not worth the risk.

  • if you can remove the BB and then take it to a good bike shop to check the alignment (40 quid?) then is it still worth it considering it may actually be worthless?
bent crank / BB = major impact

  • no

  • frame is fucked innit

  • Barge pole

  • javelin.

  • depends what you plan doing with it... if its to fill a bike shaped hole in a skip...buy it!

  • Well I was actually short of some scaffolding... Nah I told the guy if all other buyers fail I will take it off his hands, check it out and if its ok I will pay him appropriately.
    Thanks anyway.

  • More structural probably.. I would ask to borrow it, then take out the BB, and get it checked by your local bike shop. if it is relatively undented then it may still be misaligned..

  • Well if he takes up on my offer I will get it checked over, structurally and the alignment too.

  • No

  • y ask if your still gonna buy it

  • Don't even think about it. An impact hard enough to bend cranks and chainrings is almost certain to have damaged the frame. You can easily check by running fingers along top and down tubes close to the head tube. If you can feel any creasing in either tube the bike is a write off.

It is not unknown that ebayers try it on as you will have paid for the bike/frame before receiving it but when dealing in person that sort of basic structural check is the first thing you need to do. With dodgy ebayers you would then raise a dispute and, hopefully, get your money back.

Did I need to post this as most people know this sort of basic stuff! Last comment is rhetorical so please don't take offence.

  • As I said already, I know there could be a very good chance that the damage would make it a right off. SOOOOOO I will see if I can get it off him, check it out and if it is ok pay him, its actually a forum sorta trade sale thing so not a scam. He listed it as damaged. And if I wasnt clear in my last few posts I apoligise.
