just do the nuts up tighter?
tugs 'lock' the axel in place really.. very useful on bmxes when ur grinding.... not convinced they are that inportant on track bikes

i understand how they work, but how are they actually attached? do i have to brake them to the dropouts? if so how do they come off to change the wheel ect?

the bit with the hole in it goes around your axle between the nut and the dropout, then the long bit goes over the end of the dropout with the threaded bit going down the center of your dropout. then when you tighten the nut on the end of the tensioner the wheel moves backwards thus tightening your chain to the right tension before you do up the wheel nuts.

hmm, just realised that i dont have rear facing dropouts, thier front facing. i dont think tugs are going to work here, anyone have any experience?

a) Put gears back on your bike and save the puppies? (Sounds like it's a conversion)
b) Buy a track frame?
c) Accept the fact that it's not going to be perfect?
d) Tighten up your bolts?d's prob the best option.

cant put gears back on, dont want buy a track frame just yet (im well poor). it is indeed a conversion.
i think im going to have to construct my own tug system which i cant screw/bolt to the dropouts. i keep slipping out but im not sure if this is to do with my imperfect chainline, or if it is just going to happen anyway.

surly chaintug, havent got one on mine but they apparently do the job on forward facing (bottle opener as well!), you are using track nuts aren't you? just give them a good tighten if anything

I just put some chain tensioners on my Surly this morning... got the chain nice and tight. Only worry is that they might scrape the paint on the track ends. Anyway, excuse the cameraphone photos, but gives a rough idea. Twas very easy to do!

Got this in the post this morning; works great I'd recommend a chain tug.
However, the surly one is alot bigger then most other tugs (due to the largely unnecessary beer openers) & isn't the prettiest.

i destroyed an mks tug... not sure how. i was being an idiot i think, overtightened it (because it didn't work in the same way as my old tug) and it sheared, leaving me with a bent bit which i can't get off the axle.
i felt a bit stupid, i'm normally really good with things like that. i think i just got a bit excited... they do look really nice.
