49*15 is high. try an 18/19T at the back.
those pedals look crap, before investing in SPDs try some more practical ones.. wich use standard cages. e.g mks sylvan / gr-9s -
• #3
Hmm, well I was thinking of getting an 18 or something for the flipside.. probably wise.
I could get some cages for current flats, sylvan look good. I'll check the bay. Cheers.

get Time Alium pedals 27quid, and they never come unclipped.
as for ratios, drop it quite a bit while you're learning, else you'll fuck your knees up like I did!

49*19 is what Jesus rides, so if you are religious thats a plus.
-
• #6
Does he offer any specific guarantee on safety whilst riding that ratio?

Hey i run Eggbeaters and i love um! But would you want to get rid of them looks as my friend is looking for some very cheap pedals???
Thanks

what?
-
• #9
Hmm, might get rid of the looks.. I'll check the model, how much does he want to spend?
Gabes.. I'll try your suggested ratio. And look at those pedals.
-
• #10
i didn't suggest a ratio, but now you ask, I run 63" 46:19, and it's lovely.
-
• #11
Erm i dunno about price really he would like free ones but he has had no luck with that yet but as cheap as possible i guess, from the picture they look well used and fairly old ones? Only one problem is im in the midlands so they would need to be posted if that is ok with you?

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=6129 they're cheap and look ok, any way of finding out if they're the soles which make that horrendous clackety clack noise when you walk..?

Thanks Broker, whats the disadvantage of that brake position apart from looking silly?
-
• #18
No one is giving you strange looks. No one gives a shit if you're wearing SPDs.
You are just insecure. You will grow out of that with time and before you know it, socks pulled up to your knees while wearing sandals and shorts will be totally groovy. -

Apart from being size blinkin 7.

• #20
I've a pair of these Shimano MTB Spds for sale if your interested?
-
• #21
Thanks Broker, whats the disadvantage of that brake position apart from looking silly?
I was talking about the aesthetic, but i suppose always having to be down on the drops to use it might be a disadvantage!?
-
• #22
Thanks Hippy, my decent into the world of lycra is ever closer thanks to your warm words.
I'm really just looking for ease of use really, I can't walk about in those loud SPD shoes all day, need something quieter.
-
• #23
Size Charco? price?
Well your right Broker about how it looks, I tend to be down on the drops alot anyhow, i'll probably figure something out.

unwrap some bartape, reverse and slide on the lever, lift hood, re-wrap.
It will look 1000 times better, thats a stunning frame. -

I'll do it right now.
The story of three sets of pedals:
Bike came with look cleat type..
took them off as i've no shoes/cleats
Used some flat old type (grippy) pedals, which i've been using on my conversion for ages with no trouble. These were fine, but I keep reading horror stories about flats..
So I got some system ex clip pedals:
Put these on today and not getting on, small surface doesn't feel like I'm transmitting force well and can't get my feet into them moving (i'm sure that comes with time) but still can you quickly put them on in heavy traffic?
So.. recommendations? SPD I assume, but with some soft soles... for the shopping on route home.. So how cheap can I get some spd's and shoes and cleats?
Think i'll go back to my flats for the moment.
Cheers in advance.toby
PS. I have searched, and generally the ATAC are recommended.. just wondering prices, or if anyone has any kicking about.
PPS. I've also been trying to skid (since I have some foot retention), not finding it easy even with the straps.. maybe 49/15 is a bit high?
