General rule of thumb is what ever feels right.
My MTB alternates between front brake right, rear left or rear right if I'm only running one brake.
BMX (for me) is always right lever for the rear whether iot has one or two brakes.
Fixed, when I used a front brake, was always right hand.Pay attention to the fact you're using the bike on the road though. When turning right you may have to signal so it would be more useful if the lever was on the left hand side so you can still brake if necessary.

I have mine on the right.
It makes sense to have it on the left however. This way you can signal right and have a hand on the brake (Not so essential to signal left obviously).EDIT: Wot Object sed

Whichever hand is not holding your polo mallet!

well... loads of people mount it on the left so when you signal to go right you can apply the brake, and just turn left when you need to ie. its safer.

You're signalling right, i.e. with right arm, yet holding the brake how exactly. Surely it makes more sense to have it on the left so you can signal right whilst covering the brake with your left hand?

A new Dia-Compe lever allows you to brake from left or right on one lever
This looks awesome!
I have one of the Kore cross top leavers and run it on the right coz it's naturally my strongest hand.
Agree with Object tho, whatever feels right. If you have 2 you might want to stick to a rule for left & right, but as your Fixed will only be front brake, less to get confused about!

Surely if your brake is on the right you brake with your legs if you are turning right?
Am I wrong? It's what I do.

Chances are the OP asking this question is still quite new to fixed. Of course you can slow down with your legs but some people find it easier to use their brake. -

Ignore me! My legs dont work as a brake anyway!! ;)
