    +1

You might need to supply some information.

In leu of any clues as to the type of bottom bracket you have or what is stuck - the lock ring, the spindle, the cups, the etc etc - I suggest you should try and make sure:

your Octalink tool is properly engaged
your cups are being turned the right way
your lock ring is not seized
the crank extractor tool you are/are not using is the right type

    and so on . . .

  • There is something wrong with my cranks, can anyone tell me what's wrong ?

    Cheers :)

  • Specific, and to the point.

I'm guessing that you mean that when you stop peddaling, the cranks keep turning? A common fault I hear on australian bikes. You should sell your bike to me (it's all but worthless now) and stick to the shopper.

  • @Tynan.You need to adjust the crank bearings. I thought you'd know that!? They wear out easily. Also, could be that your cranks are the wrong colour for your frame.

@Paul: I had a stuck old school lockring-type bb. Just soaked the whole shizzle in WD40 and used a hammer and a screwdriver. Better, if you have access to a vice tough.

Cheers fred, I smashed it with a hammer like you said and now it seems to be different, is this good or bad ?

I hit them with a hammer like you said and now they are excellent, but I am not sure whether they are working now or not, what do I do next ?

  • What colour has your frame and cranks. Might be a mismatch? Which Unipack version do you have? 2008 or 2009? Best to post a photo of you on it.

  • Do you still ride this one? http://www.londonfgss.com/post238651-94.html

I hate to tell you, but I think you got ripped off. It's made from air, FFS. What were you thinking?

I mean, air is really light, and is a nice ride but I've heard that air cranks often have your problem.

Yes that's the one, the man in the shop said it was the lightest bike you can get (that's why it cost so much) - he also sold me some magic beans and 2 year pass to all the London parks.

The cranks are one colour and the frame is also a colour, not sure whether they match or not, how would I go about trying to work that out ?

    • also now the front wheel is not right, what should I do about this ?

That's a tough one. I only ever dealt with rear wheels so you must go to a specialised front wheel engineer. I believe Hillbilly has a FrWheTech Level 2 qualification so he should know.

Go to your LBS and ask for "colour calipers for measuring crank-frame-colour discrepancy". They often pretend that they don't know what you mean, to fop people off or make them buy a new bike. You have to be really insistent and demand that you won't leave the shop until they have given it to you.

  • My boomerang won't come back.

    give it time

  • right i have a sealed shimano bottom braket no lock ring on it, i have removed the threaded ring on the no drive side but cant loosen off the other side that is attached to the whole bottom bracket!

using the correct tool and have had it in a bike stand with big breaker bar attached and still wont move!!

someone must be able to shed some light on this problem!??

  • You'll need a vice. Put the BB tool in it and then turn the frame.

Make sure you are turning it the correct way.

BB shells have one side reverse threaded - check to see which way yours must be turned to loosen - the Shimano website might have a PDF for that BB.

  • i am def turning correct way and indeed it does have reverse thread.

any other ideas other than vince and turning frame?

  • man the fuck up?

    1. a whole dose of mtfu (spare pair of hands and a scaffold bar)
    2. empty a can of wd40, go and have a drink and try again tomorrow
    3. wrap the bb in a towel and empty a kettle of boiling water onto it
  • Take it to a decent bike shop and let them have a go. They have secret techniques handed down through a lineage of shaolin monks and other layabouts. PlusGas is very effectivel. Something that motor mechanics have used for years. Then a big bar and a big bear, and even a big beer. Also bolt the tool into the BB with a crank bolt to stop it slipping when you put lots of torque on it. Good luck

  • Hey guys, wondering if anyone here has any clue about releasing a seized bottom bracket. My mate in oxford just bought a nice harry quinn with the aim of conversion and his bb is stuck. he has taken it to 2 LBSs but none of them want/can do it for him. do you know of any place in london where he could bring it down and do it. we have very limited tool kit and we are a bit short in time as we were planning a bike trip up in loch lommond the wknd after next so i wont have all the time to get all the equipment i may need. also the dudes in the oxford lbs said that forcing it might brake the frame. had a google education and to me it doesnt seem like that happens often, worse case you have to rethread. opinions and advice appreciated. thanks
