Cheers Dylan - what i'm after is 1st hand experience of riding a campag pista hub on the road in daily use. They are not sealed (which i think is not the problem ^^ - one off?) so is there anyone here who uses them for this purpose - am after 1st hand encounters. It's a big outlay if not 100%.

Goodhead, I've ridden Campag Record track hubs on the road for about 20 years, including 4-5 years of courier work. Never had a problem yet

I used to run 32/40 and am currently on 28/40

Try Campyoldy, Bought my current hubs from there, Nigel is a really good bloke.
You'll pay about 50-60 per hub -

Perfect - appreciate your help. Campyoldy was where i was going to get them from but the link i posted freaked me a bit. Good to hear 1st hand. I thought the sheldon link seemed a bit ott - one person's bad luck i guess.

I've never ridden CRecord sheriff star, but I'd recommend old style Record to anyone

Fruitbat - what rims are you laced to? Am presuming the figures you posted are for the hub?!

Currently: open pro 28 front, A719 40 rear.

I have a pair of high flange 36 hole hubs from the mid eighties, £100. Not Sheriff stars, but slotted similar.

sheriff stars have a bit of a rep for cracking, wouldn't use on the road. keep them for track.

I use Sherrif Stars on my commute, and they work out fine for me. I read all that stuff about cracking etc too but I figured I'd chance it as they look so great. So far no probs. If you like the hubs go for it!

Thanks all - i'll take your advice & go for it. 50/14 - I'll take those ^^ off your hands. What's the best way to get hold of you?
Sorry if this has been asked before but I can't find a thread on it. I'm building up an old touring frame as a fixed gear & want to keep it pretty vintage. I've got everything sorted apart from the hubs. Would like to put vintage campags on it but have been put off by this. (If this url does not work can someone tell me how to post on!):

Does anyone have any experience of riding campag hubs daily in london?
& more importantly if i'm worrying unnecessarily does anyone in London have any for sale or can you suggest a good alternative for a vintage re-build.
