  • Right, all the guitarists out there, favourite Electric, Acoustic, Bass, Pedal, Amp etc... lets have our gear lists here :)

^^^Sorry it's a shit phone pic from ages ago, not quite my whole collection but a sizeable majority

    Electric: PRS Custom 22

^^^Sorry for the piss poor pics, this one's from a show at the Genko Uchida building in Berklee

    Acoustic: Collings OM-2H

Bass: My mate Joel's homemade J-Bass

^^^Joel and his lovely homemade bass (The neck is from a vintage bass c. 70's)

Pedal: Dunlop DB-01 Crybaby From Hell, Digitech Whammy or Line6 DL-4 Delay Modeller

Amp: Divided by 13 are the best I've played but I can't afford one yet so it's probably a Marshall DSL-100

    Cables: Planet Waves

    So what's everyone into gearwise??

  • Im trying to get rid of what gear I have.

Fancy gear, and effects & distortion in general is fun to jam with in an expressive yet nieve kinda way.

I find that people who are amazing players and session musicians etc, tend to just have one or two basic reliable guitars.

With skilled varied 'highly musical' playing, you rarely notice characteristics of the gear, just marvel at the music. Which is the way it should be I think.

  • Guitars:

There is but one... Gretsch. Nice heavy set of strings and you're flying.

Amps: Just about to have an amp custom built for me once I get the deposit to the guy. Fender Deluxe Reverb clone, can't wait! Should be surftastic.

Pedals: TU-2. My best friend on the floor.

  • wooooo, wish i had 11 guitars to show off!

  • I love my Framus star bass, haven't got a pic a the moment as it is in the studio being used.

Warwick 5 string with a humbucker is amazing for very different reasons.

  • wooooo, wish i had 11 guitars to show off!

Sorry....I've sixteen actually....didn't want it to be a show off thread but I love talking about guitars and figured that was a good way to get it started...

And a very lovely Gretsch it is!! Friend of mine has one and they're great!! What strings are you using?? Flatwounds or roundwounds?? 13s I presume??

That's true...although having loads of guitars doesn't make you a bad guitarist...it just doesn't make you a good one either...honestly to most people the majority of my guitars would just all seem the same, four PRS' isn't really variety but it's the way I've got them set up makes the difference and then my Ibanez was only purchased for the Floyd Rose which isn't available on any stock PRS models, then there's acoustics which is a whole different ballgame, they really are all different and no matter how good you are their individual tone will ring out quite strongly in comparison with electrics... then you've got completely different tones from different pickups, different woods, two "identical" guitars from any good manufacturer will sound completely different unless you're Van Halen...he could play a sweeping brush and make it sound like him ;)

  • My favourite guiatr is the Manson explorer with an ebony fboard and through neck. large strings 12's or 13's and a seymour duncan Seth Lover humbucker.....no tone pot, no need.

  • TBH it's similar to bikes, some people are obsessed with what spooke nipples they use and some people just ride whatever they get their hands on, to each their own but I'm definitely a gearophile

Haven't tried the Seth Lover, what's it like? I love PRS pickups, they're actually really good, the Dragon II pickup set is perfect, I do have a Dimebucker in my Tremonti though which is just the most metal pickup ever...most metal passive anyway!! Harmonics just appear from nowhere for those Killswitch Engage/Pantera/Zakk Wylde squeals

  • for the last 15 years have used a strat with 12's running through a fender deville. before the deville had a musicman 2x12 150hd.

  • A little more old school than metal. I tried an EMG silver series but it was too heavy for me. The seymour duncan has got the most amazing crunch sound, the guitar's got bags of sustain too. Fantastic for the old 60's-70's rock stuff. I have used it for some heavy stuff too, but it is always doubled up, often with a strat.

I have loved all the PRS's I've tried but I've never really been able to afford one......I've only got 10 guitars. 3 basses, 1 uke, 1 12 string etc

  • I've always fancied a musicman EVH too.

  • I'm going to ignore the shitloads of guiitars jabs ;)

Check these out, none of your Musicman muck here!!

They're making a version of the Wolfgang too but it's not on the site yet

  • '58 Gibson Les Paul Junior (d/c, cherry)
'75 Fender Tele Deluxe (natural, maple neck)
'62 Silvertone (amp in case model, black sparkle)
    '37 Kalamazoo K14 (natural)
'78 Tokai Silver Star (strat copy, white/white, rosewood neck)
'00 Tokai Love Rock (Les Paul TV copy, TV yellow)
'04 Fender Jazz (medium scale, white on white, rosewood neck)
'97 Custom Andy Sier electric mandolin (black, kinda like a cross between a Fender/Vox)
I've probably forgotten something! Don't really play much anymore...

  • in order of importance:

    00' Gibson L00
98' Amistar Style N (with national cone)
old yammy electric strat copy thing with uprated guts
    cheap as chips P-bass copy

  • I play a 2006 American P-Bass

  • Don't play but love the craftmanship that goes into guitars - my best mate is a serious collector, and has the second model off the production line of the first edition Les Paul Robot guitar - that thing is mental, and although he bought it out of curiosity he now swears by the tech.

  • i know fuck all about guitars except some of them look nice
my dad is very good friends with a man called Kent Armstrong he makes those black bits that sit under the strings at the fat end of the guitar for famous guitar people like sir Jimmy Page.

I witnessed Kents baseball cap being shot with a shotgun, nothing to do with guitars but i thought i would share it with you.

Very nice!! I'll bet the Tele Deluxe is a gem ;)

  • 74 sunburst les paul deluxe, everly brothers epiphone acoustic - both been in storage for 6 months :-(

  • I have a Schecter Tempest Blackjack:

I got it for dirt cheap from the US as a factory second and it plays like a dream. Also have a shocking Epiphone that I'm looking to get rid of and a nameless cheap Ibanez electro acoustic (second hand for £50) which I need to replace. Just can't seem to find the right guitar though, I like the Yamaha APX series but they're not quite right.

    Don't have the money anyway.

Roundwound twelves, they're the business! Face-kickingly great tone and stay in tune forever.
