Corny, I agree with you on certain aspects. People do need to think more before they post, to be honest I skip over so many posts as their worth is likely not of interest. I've lost count of the amount of people on my ignore list. I've got bored of readin the endless shit just to find the nice bits. The forum is a state compared to what it was, this is due to the sheer amount of people joining as some are bound to be morons. But as I've been re3ading today it has struck me just how many of those pointless posts are emoticon heavy. The usage of such seems to overtake the actual
nonpoint made. Remove peoples excessive over use of emoticons and they'll have to think about what they write just so they can get the same point across. Most people when forced to think are suprisingly capable and would even realise themselves that they're just adding content for the sake of posting.Don't get me wrong, it's not just new users. There are older users who are just as guilty. Posting endless shit just to build a name for themselves in the community that we represent. It's ther perpetual fucking one-up-man-ship mentality which derails all of the posts that may have been worth reading.

Object, pictures of chimps are still ok tho? pleasethankyou
-

Relevant pictures are still cool. Chimps, exploited by being made to wear human clothing, are not.
-
• #30
Chimps love being dressed up in human clothing surely? The grins say it all.

This weeks rant is aimed at something that many of us, including myself, are guilty of.
Over use of Emoticons. This must stop now.
Placing a winking face after a cutting remark does not make it less cutting, it meerly serves to placate the conscience of the perpetrator.
Using a smiley face to highlight an overly positive space just wastes pixels
Using an unhappy face, see "Using a smiley face"
Using any form of rock hands, just gay. Reassess your life and go kill your self.
Roses etc, See "Using any form of rock hands"From this point forward I will be dropping all forms of emoticon from my posts. If this makes people more upset at the frequently cuntish things that I write, tough.
I urge you all to do the same.
On a different note, total adoration goes to whatamidoing for an edit he made a month or so back. The reason for editing simply said, "I can't believe I used one of those smiley face things" - Genius.
The emoticons are not happy

Aroogah, That's very strange. Good find. Random coincidence. I like.
Penny, of course it's in miscellaneous and meaningless. I'm not egotistical enough to put my rant about other peoples internet habits anywhere else. -

I'm with Corny on this one. Whilst your ambition is admirable Em, I don't think this is the medium for epistolary genius.
If emoticons resolve ambiguity, allow your piss take to be seen as that and not a personal affront then they are useful.
A favourite quote of mine that may or may not be relevant: 'If I had more time, I would have written you a shorter letter' - Blaise Pascal. Either way, I love the sentiment of this and believe in it wholeheartedly.
