Tram tracks are roughly the same size as a bicycle wheel. If an inexperienced cyclist ends up in the groove they can be stuck helpless and directly in the line of fire of a tram, whcih in turn has difficulty in stopping. A bit of panic and the result is ghastly. Tram and cycles don't mix well.
I ought to correct my earlier post. Experienced Australian cyclists are delaying our buses....
