  • how short? - if thalidomide would suggest a normal short sleeve

i have always suffered from having ape like arms so sleeves are too short, perhaps we should buy the same tops and I will take your off cuts to give longer cuffs

  • ive got a SmellyHanson base layer but think i'll get a nice merino for this winter, as well as something like bib shorts or long johns

in fact ive been thinking lots about winter wear and hidden waterproofing tweed, maybe something is in the pipes !!!

  • Katmandhu sale is on = merino vests £18 and the tees £24-25

  • cycle faster, and HTFU

  • Ice Breakers from Ellis Brigham are awesome for when it's cold. Superfine merino wool and flatlocked seams for comfort, nice long sleves too.

  • will check out kathmandu, icebreaker stuff is v good - but more than rapha

  • how short are we talking? I'm a little one and my small size icebreaker fits really well...just got a 150 bodyfit last night...£40, but really worth it...

has to be merino, anything else is a false economy in my opinion...

  • I like the Infil ones. Currently £6.29 (l/s or s/s or vest) at probikekit.

I think BMMF is on to something with these.

  • I did the 3 for £90 and defo the best base layers I have had, and had a lot over the years.
Have a HH lifa, but it's not right good, and some others I forget. Save up and get Merino
it really does make a difference, it's not that cold yet, also, but a wind shirt to keep out the breeze, I use mine way more than a waterproof, essential bit of kit.

Do they do long sleeve tees too? Hmmmm, I suppose I could always get a short sleeve and arm warmers like Jacqui suggested.

Anyhoo...I just bought one from Swrve. Couldn't wait for the Rapha ones so thought I'd go with these guys. I'll get myself on that Howies mailing list though and will pounce as soon as a sale is on!

  • one word too you guys.......howies.
end of story, best quality, best price, right attitude. they really do do the best stuff.....take it from me......35 years in the clothing buisness. 40 years cycling

  • Trick with Howies stuff is to go to the sample sale on Brick Lane, picked up some cracking items last time. They sell at the Ethical Clothing sale. Worth keeping an eye out for it.

  • Another Howie's longsleeve recommendation here. Happy with the full price one I paid for, but even happier with the one I picked up in the sale last month for a little over £20.

Stinky long sleeve tops I picked up cheap from Newitts:

Good tip! Do you know when these are on perchance?

  • It's worth looking in TK MAXX from time to time, picked up a Helly Hansen Merino wool base layer down from £44 to £19. 'Technical Socks' are usually half price also.

The Helly Hansen with Merino wool is good for when it is very cold, too hot though when just mild.

  • Bass Layer

  • double bass layer

  • Good tip! Do you know when these are on perchance?

No, but if you sign up to newsletters from Howies, they email when they are usually.

  • Bass slayer?

  • i got a short sleeve black rapha merino one at a sale they had for 20 notes. it is so fucking good.

  • Good tip! Do you know when these are on perchance?

i'll post thread about it when its on.

having trouble finding this. Is there a link?

  • Just picked up underlayers today, aldi all the way €12. T and under leggings, seem to be good shizz.
I also picked up a cycling jacket, windproof water resistant seems good and two waterproof leggings.

  • I got two howies merino long sleeves for like 20ish each on sale, and they're really comfy and nice to wear.
