Took my bike over a couple of years ago via Ryanair. I flew to Stockholm Skavsta which of course is nowhere near Stockholm but in Nyköping a hundred km South. But it's in the direction that I needed to go.
Ryanair have restrictions on the size of the container so I got an old bike box from my LBS and cut it smaller then took my bike to bits and packed it all up. When I was seated comfortably on the plane I looked out of the window to see that they were tossing my box onto the trolley with the bags and upside down when I had clearly marked "This way up".
They are fleece merchants so be warned about excess and hidden charges. At that time it was only £15. I think it's more now as they are charging for check-in.
I managed to get it there in one piece without any damage to the bike. But the journey for the bike was only one way thankfully and it now resides at my cottage near Vimmerby. Riding fixed in the zero traffic country lanes of Sweden, now that is nice. Back again this weekend.
