Most traders have a fair idea what's going on in other markets, so I wouldn't read so much into that. If you're trading any commodity then you need to know what could affect your market - as well as the obvious economical fundamentals, you need to worry about things like your foreign exchange risk because of the currency tanking or your counterparty risk because the bank you did a deal with last week is on the verge of bankruptcy, for example.
