a phd in science, can open a lot of doors to awesome jobs ;) . people know you have the ability to learn new skills and you can be adaptable.
patent clerk
private industry ie glaxo-smithcheers dogs,
i'm seriously thinking of getting out of science though. just a bit of a break. i've done research. i've tried tech transfer (working with universities to spin out ideas (working with patent clerks), i'm not sure i'm interested in private industry (ethics).i want to try and do something with fitzrovia youth in action (i work round the corner from them) for a bit. take a part time job, refresh my maths and creative writing.
bring about world peace. sit on the sofa, eat cheetos/wotsits, have a wank and wonder why my cock is turning yellow.....i'm not lost (yet), but i'm looking to try different things that add something to who i am.
contemplating baby sitting and dog walking as well.....

My route-
School -> College -> Uni (Law) -> Fucked off and lived abroad for 2 years -> Returned to London and had around 10 jobs, of which I was fired from several -> Accidentally found out while unemployed what I wanted to do -> Another 10 jobs, of which I have been fired from several, while studying part-time -> Right bleedin' now.
If you can't be arsed to read the above, here's the 'important part'- there's more than one way to skin a cat, and find out what you really want to do in life.

We need something to enhance our Battlestar Galactica marathon Dale! We do do things other than the Wii... like sit about on our arse watching hours of sci-fi!

It's amazing the number of people who assume that academia is the only home of intellectuality.
The intellectual aspect was way down the list of things I enjoyed about university.
I think you took my tongue-in-cheek "anti-intellectual" remark a bit too seriously. There are obviously intellectuals in a wide variety of areas.
And it's too bad you didn't find university intellectually stimulating. Trust me when I say that it can be. I found it terrific (although more so in North America than the UK).

And Canada. I went to Bath and Dalhousie.
It's not that university isn't intellectually stimulating per se, it's just very limited in scope. The problems I face in my job - for example - are more offer a greater range of intellectual stimulation.
Also, do I care about Physics (what my degree is in)? Do I fuck.
so what is your business?
