I, and many others drilled their forks (ask a frame builder or knowledgable bike pimp to check it out first) provided you have enough clearance for a brake and the crown is meaty enough it's the best option.
I find it easy to take my brake of at the track, but those clamp on things look like a lot more of a faff..
If you are leaving it on permanently then it would presumably be ok. But then one must ask why you are considering an unsuitable fork for road use....
