Clearly my memo to bike companies teaching them that backward sloping top tubes (a la langster) are wrong got lost in the post.
Langster = bad
Fankgster = really, really bad, even if it does happen to be better looking than the langster, like the giant one.
The style is still incredibly awkward and looks like an ugly inbred child of bmx and a mountain bike that was only born with one gear and now it's parents dress it up in powder coating and hope the other kids won't pick on it.
It shows they've done their research (albeit have ended up getting it horribly wrong).
Their target demographic isn't hipsters or 'proper' fixed riders, because they know they're less likely to buy OTP, preferring instead to do custom builds. They're aiming at commuters and wannabes who are used to relaxed head angles and sloping top tubes that they've got on their MTBs and compact road bikes who will want a little kookiness - like a chopped Brooks and dropped bullhorns - but won't want it to be so outlandish that they'll be laughed at by their friends.
