  • ha, very good plat du jour...

  • The Death of Marco Pantani: A Biography by Matt Rendell

That is another Biography I think will go on the list.

One of the best books (not just biogs) I've read in recent years. Proper page-turner with (predictably) tragic end. And like numerous others, I recommend The Rider.

Blazing Saddles is good too - much more 'bite sized' but some amazing history.

You might find this helpful too:

  • I got Sex Lies and Handlebar Tape and the Robert Millar biog among my birthday presents. Saving them for my hols next week...

  • Currently reading [ame="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Put-Me-Back-My-Bike/dp/0224080180/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1221224809&sr=8-1"] Put Me Back on My Bike: In Search of Tom Simpson [/ame]by William Fotheringham. Not a bad book but I am finding it abit slow at times.

  • I'm currently perusing 'Readers Wives' October 2008
A gripping, pacy li'l number full of abstract expressionism, character driven letters and wipe clean semi gloss pages.

  • I got Matt Seaton's THE ESCAPE ARTIST for my birthday and really enjoyed it. The opening paragraph is especially well-written, as he describes the feeling of reaching the top of a big climb, levelling out and "spinning the burn away".

Credit crunch, forcing you to make cut backs?

  • @Brick. i found willian fotheringhams write ups of the olympics in the newspaper to be awful. i hope the book is better written than that.

  • also, i have started a library thread. it is here... http://www.londonfgss.com/thread10383.html
just in case anyone is interested.

Credit Crunch,Forcing and The Cut Back- how do you know so much about my 'reading' techniques....

    Drawbacks, repeated, swift drawbacks...

^ its a great resource! what do you lot think?
but if people do DL the books and find them useful please buy them! i mean im all for DLing them and having a good look and then not buying them if there not of any use - i dont see it as any different to picking up a book in a store and having a browse then not buying it. . . anyway hope it helps someone :D

  • shit, i am going to have say this looks really useful

    good find rocker

  • lol, ive used it a few times, i have to say pateraks frame building manual is very interesting, not particularly helpful to a non frame builder though -.-
    the books i would recommend:

    • Sutherlands - truely a great book but £90 RRP i think . . .
    • The bicycle wheel - have a flick through it then buy it, jobst is a bit of a knowitall but its a good book
    • the ultimate bicycle book is also quite nice. . .
  • Has anyone had a read of this

    http://freebikebook.blogspot.com/

Seems to be aimed at the at all levels (sorry if already posted)

  • They're imported, in German, hardcover, probably limited copies so clearly a limited readership here. Supply & Demand

  • Ah, yes, the Koblet boot is in German, just noticed that, but not the Merckx. And surely there's demand for that?! Those Mousehold Press books retail for about £15.

  • I kinda collect the The International Cycling History Conference Proceedings series,
    http://www.cyclepublishing.com/history/ichc.html
They are worth getting if you are into that kind of thing (read: strange kid like me).

Anything else from van der Plas Publications probably worth getting too:

  • The Mercx book is listed here on the publisher's site for $29.99 but not available to buy.

Maybe it was a short run and out of print.

  • Nice one.

  • I've recently read this 'Eddy Mercx' Rik Van Walleghem(borrowed for a clubmate) very good it was too. It was a blue cover though? In it, amongst other things 'The Cannibal' admits to enjoying a smoke to aid** **relaxation. Quality!

  • Was that in English or French?

  • It was in English. Cant find an image of the cover anywhere? Same title. Maybe early edition. Twas good, not worth £23 though!
