Since brakeless BMX riding became so fashionable 4-5 years ago or so. Almost all riders (competent or not) have ditched the brakes.
Riders do all sorts of stuff to control speed, such as jumping onto a kerb crooked, scraping the back tyre to slow down.
Hop 180's, (go backward for a bit to slow down)
Regular footjam skids.
and twitching about..
I think the guy in the video just slid out a bit, didnt look on purpose. May be wrong though.

bloody brakeless BMXs. I got stuck behind one the other day. Had to wait for him to nearly crash so I could get by him.

It looks as if he did it more as a style thing, from experience it doesnt really slow you that much, but if you find some nice loose gravel path its good fun. Everyone loves skiding, find a puddle and it can be used to spray your mates!
And hardly copying fixed wheel skiding, that like saying that bmxers copying fixed wheels because we are all pedaling?

i based the 'copying' on the fact last time i hung out with brakeless BMX riders, non of them did that.. and that was before Fixed became cool

BMX vids will always be more interesting to watch, regardless of whatever crazy shit is happening out in Japantown.

I was riding skateparks ten years ago and never saw people riding bmx brakeless, ever. I think it's totally stupid and limits the capabilities of the rider (for flatland/freestyle stuff). I really think it's gotten so popular now as it's seen as the cool thing to do. It's the gay thing to do. I'm waiting for some clever twat to comment on my use of the word "gay" now.

The kids at my local bmx park are often putting a foot on the rear tyre to skid/slow/stop/rollback.
They're also pretty interested in me and my mate's "big bikes" (as they call them).

Funniest thing I've read on the forum for ages....unless it actually was ironic.

hahaahaa are you serious? copying a fixie!?!?! haha no chance!
think you will find that kicking the back wheel out is just a way to scrub some speed without using your feet, typical if your setting up for a trick. sorry i been ding it prettymuch the whole time ive been bmxing about 8 years waaaay before i even knew fixedwheels exsisted! maybe the peopel you know/have seen havent been riding long and havent pick it up yet???
sorry this post actually made me laugh out loud! -

Isn't it a bit hypocritical to claim they're copying the fixed wheel bicycle way of stopping without a brake when some influenced of the whole fixed gear cycling come from BMX? (especially when it come to trick).

1.40min into this.. the guy on a breakless bmx does a skid to scrub speed.
now, granted, i havnt watched too many BMX videos for the last 2 years or so, but i dont think i EVER saw anyone do that when i used to ride/watch. it was always a foot jammed into the back, or just too much speed.
so, yeh.. anyone else seen this? im just curious
