Patching up my Pac

Posted on
  • I'm looking at putting some patchs on my Pac. I've found loads of possibles I'd like to iron on.

I assume ironing on patches to cordoroy is cool, any experience out there?

    MASH

  • I assume ironing on patches to cordoroy is cool,

I guess that would depend on the temperature setting

  • i sewed mine on, but you have to be careful not to pierce the inner liner

  • If the iron is too hot you'll melt the waterproof coating on the back of the cordura...or the pvc coating on the liner...or stick the two together.

  • i used that wonder web shit on mine, and just sewed the corners to stop them getting snagged.
sealed over the holes on the inside with glue.
worked fine, and nor cordura or waterproof pvc stuff on the inside melted.

  • do you really need an electrical screwdriver for the wonder web shit, or do you just have a radical sewing technique?

  • electrical screwdriver

    drill
noun a tool or machine used for boring holes.

    or..

    drill
noun a West African baboon with a naked blue or purple rump.

so the oxford dictionary tells me.....apparently it is not used for wonder webbing shit.

  • What is this wonder web business, eh?

    thanks for pointing it out
    i'm a foreigner, what can i say...

  • What is this wonder web business, eh?

that iron on sticky stuff that lazy people use for heming trousers.

  • Ah-ha Spag-hoops. I have som of zis at home. But if they are sold as iron on patches won't there already be an adhesive on the back?

i would imagine so......i did put a crap load of it on though...at tleast 3 layers of the stuff...... had the iron sat on it for ages.

  • A word of warning....if anybody sends me their Archie's Grobag back with patches stitched through the outer AND liner, with glue over the stitching...or the waterproof coating (that they cant see cos it's on the back of the cordura) melted...and the bag then either leaks or rips...your warranty WILL be void! ;)

  • hahaha.....good job i haven't got a grobag then!!

  • I think you'll find that Pac will feel exactly the same.

Purposefully ruining the waterproof elements of a bag would make the manufacturer very unlikely to replace or repair a bag when someone starts complaining that it is no longer waterproof.

I'd have though that would be obvious but apparently you're a cunt.

  • i couldn't give a shit what pack say. i'm not gonna go crying to the manufacturer if a bit of water gets in the 5 miniscule holes. i did it. i can live with it.
    it's a fucking patch on a bag . who gives a shit.
    apparently you're a cunt to.

  • Firstly it's Pac. You should at least care enough to learn to spell their name correctly.
Secondly, I've never disputed being a cunt, in fact I've even advertised it with my old avatar.
Thirdly, AND THIS IS THE IMPORTANT THING. If you're going to not give a shit about your own bag, fair enough. That's your choice, but please give sound advice to other people. ChaBeef, may want to know the risks of following your advice, especially if you consider he's spent that much cash on a bag and there are proper ways of doing things which will not fuck it up.

  • i haven't got a pack (pac) it's a bailey works. sorry for my inferior knowledege of bags i don't even own....i'll have to read up on it for future pointless arguments.
i'm just putting my two cents in.... i put a patch on my bag. it's still waterproof, it didn't melt, and it it didn't spontaniously combust.
CheBeef: it is possible, the world will not end if you do it, but your bag may not hold up in a monsoon in the Amazon. mine held up fine in the rain (monsoon) we had last week.
if you wanna do it, do it. if you don't dont.
But be warned: if you put patches on your bag, you may get stick from certain people on the forum who are not happy with you bags waterproof capabillities.
Object: you are still a cunt.

  • Wow, this is brillient. Real hatred.

I'm going to give it a go, firstly I'll put pathes on the side walls to see what the effect is. My bag is grey and I'd like to pep it up abit.

Thanks for all your input everyone. If there's anything else keep it coming.

  • haha......i knew it was going t get heated as soon as i mentioned "wonder web".

EDIT....make sure you post up some pics for cross-examination.
