Giant's 2009 bandwagon offerings - look alright actually!

Double straps OTP FTW!

Mmm Giant have seriously smarted up their act - far more handsome than the Langster range, IMHO
-
• #29
That Giant is quite lovely!! If you fancied something a bit more modern/mountain bike in the frame then it would seriously be an option, reckon this is going to hurt Langster sales!

My Fixed Tricross is one of the most fun bikes I have, I couldn't really find many singlespeed cyclocross bikes, only the Tricross and the Pompino. Coming from more of a mountain biking background I was after a fixed gear that could take a bit of a beating from subconscious line choices up and down kerbs. It has the benefit of V brakes which are awesome, just need to work on my stoppies now.
Try a Kona Expolsif

Personally I'm waiting 'till I can get a track bike in Argos before bothering even cycling.

Just ordered myself one of them '84s

The '84 is a thing of beauty, for sure. Good on you Giant
-
• #34
The Giant's are definitely for the OTP hipster.

Bit cheeky them taking pics with 75/Zen ring combos and then speccing Zen Messenger in the details. Saw the Mashup in Edwardes today and wondered what the hell it was about.
-
• #36
he white bowery is mint. apart from the bars.

That is a bit naughty that - hadn't noticed the change in the spec before ordering.
Doesn't matter too much as I'd probably end up changing them anyway
-

600 squid is quite a lot for that 84 especially seeing as the bars will need a change for at least a third of people.

a flyer's 500 tho. i'd have seriously thought about it if that giant had been about when i bought my bike.
especially (as someone pointed out earlier) as if you want a fixed flyer you'll need to pay out for a new cog and chain... and new pedals (it comes with flats and cheap straps) and you're not far off £600 anyway.
-
• #41
flyers on 3/32" standard
-
• #42
Why not get the Skyline instead of the Flyer - same bike (in black) but you get the addition of mudguards
-
• #43
I reckon that's bang on trend in some ways... a lot people seem to be building single and fixed bikes with more offroad stuff, these days, in London's famous London and beyond.
EDIT which, it goes without saying, brings HHSBmageddon a skid nearer
Hell yeah, I'm ahead of the trend! Built my fixed cross check in January and there's a lot going for comfortable geometry and full mudguards in London' s famous London.

I can tell you that the new genesis has 135mm rear spacing, and has similar geometry to an on-one il pompino, it's heavy, the frame alone weighs over 5Lb, it ain't no featherweight.
mounts for just about everything you can think of, and some you cant! :
mudgourds
canti brakes
v-brakes
crud guard
something that bolts either side of top of seatstays (panniers?)
bottle bosses on seat and downtube -

A gourd for carrying mud? I've always wanted one of those.
-
• #46
essential accessory.
you coming to the thingy tonight, Bring?
-
• #47
How much do you want for that gourd?
Oh nothing, take it,
What's wrong with it then? -

I'd like to try one
As much as I'd love my second bike to be a fab steel geared racer, it makes more sense for me to have a mud hopper lik ethis to chase my kids around the park on. The are getting to fast for me to keep up with on foot and my 700x23 bike ain't gonna cut it cross country

it actually rides fairly briskly. feels lighter once you get it going, can't comment on what it would be like with proper cross tyres and forks on the rough stuff though
