have you read sheldon / your book? i have no idea sorry, don't know why i'm posting.
i'm roughly the same weight as you and i would personally stick with 3 cross just because i know it works well and is strong.

Yep, go for 3 cross on the back wheel, you probably already know this, but as the spokes are at more of an angle they can resist driving forces and transfer power better.
I do not think there is anything 'unclean' looking about it. On the contrary I think it looks great.
If you do decide to go for 2 cross, it will still 'work' , I have a 1970's 2 cross track wheel on one of my bikes. It doesnt seem to have ever needed retruing, but I had to tie the spokes to make it feel stiffer.
Go for 3 cross.
Hello all,
I'm about to embark on my first wheelbuild, using a set of 32h goldtec hubs and velocity deep-V 700c rims. I've got Roger Musson's Wheel Building book from wheelpro.co.uk.
I'm just about to buy spokes and have to decide between a 3-cross and 2-cross lacing. I was thinking about 2-cross lacing just for a slightly cleaner look. Is this being impractical?
I am heavy (15 stone) and a reasonably powerful rider, so will be putting a fair bit of strain on the wheels. Is the 2-cross likely to be too weak?
I'd appreciate any advice.
As well as any tips for a first-time builder!
Cheers,
Arn.
