To be fair to the grumpy old tosser, I know what he's on about. When I was skating back in the late 90s it was the same. Loads of people hanging out in Shoreditch bars holding brand new skateboards without a scratch on them - fukcing stylers!

I have been riding fixed for a quite while and before that was a skateboarder too.

The crux here is that the guy thinks he is somehow special for being born some twenty years earlier.
