Having drunk Tetley for a long time I recently switched to Sainsbury's Brown Label (their cheapest blend) and have found it to be quite a lovely brew.

Mine's black, one sugar. Ta.

whole leaf, either in a pot or one of those chinese cups with a built in sieve

regular black tea (tetley, pg, typhoo, supermarket's own)

is a mix of various black tea's such as assam, ceylon etc

I drink tonnes of it, and rarely any of the 'pure' stuff. Ashamed to say I know nothing about the delicate world of tea, and that im so bloody accustomed to a bastardised mix.

This is especially a sore point, as I hail from a land of tea. Have visited numerous tea plantations too!

Earl grey is nice, gotta love that bergamot (I dont really know what that is) but a bit zingy for an everyday brew.

Skimmed milk, now that I do know is for pussies. It doesnt even whiten the tea so you have to put 5 times more in.

I like the Earl Grey from the tea place in Covent Garden.

As long as it's from leaves, though, it's all good.

Unless you're cold and wet. In which case it's all all good.

The cup must be heated to exactly 90 degree's
then add a tea bag formed from 75 day old leaves picked by virgins
the cup must be filled to 97.5% with boiling mineral water
leave for exactly 4 mins
add full fat yaks milk 3% so the cup overflows
stir tea with bag with (clean) fingers (if there not burning your not doing it right)
do not use spoons especialy stainless steel spoons ass they taint the tea
squeeze tea bag and chuck in bin.

I used to love that stuff! If we're thinking of the same stuff then I don't think it's actually tea though. More like some kind of granulated fruit drink you add hot water to. If you know of an actual tea variety though let me know! That stuff's the shiznit.

Green or White tea is the best. Get some Chinese loose leaf from the tea shop in Covent Garden, chuck it in the bottom of a mug and pour on the water. Those rolled up leaves expand nicely.

Japanse Green tea is probably the best. I had a $10 cup in NY once, it was just amazing. I think the leaves had been hand picked by Virgins or Monks or something. Was truly lovely. Think it added about 7 years to my life

Sainsbury's Taste the difference Assam 8/10

Dragonfly rooibos vanilla or breakfast both caffeine free and taste 9/10 - perfect if you can't do too much caffeine (sigh).

Can't recommend the dragonfly teas highly enough. Serve black or white just like "normal" tea.

Nice and stong. Half a suger and a dash of milk. Perfect brew.

pg tips, miky with sugar, drink it by the pint

the only drink that really satisfies a thirst, water often leaves me with that dry mouth feel 5 mins after downing a pint

Six kinds of tea:

Caff tea fine when cold and wet (like kendal mint cake= horrible at any other time)

STRONG Earl Gay loose semi skimmed is my breakfast choice.

Oolong for feeling all spiritual like yoga in a cup, its the sheeet. Its all about the semi-fermenteds, people. More expensive than gold though.

Black Turkish stuff that tastes a bit like its got rose petals in, bitter as sin, in my local grill place.

Chai like its made in Tanzania (dry ginger, sugar, tea, milk all boiled up in a pan together then strained) is out of this world, as is good properly spiced Indian chai - though I've hardly ever had this having never been to India. Seem to remember having this wonderful cup at Glasto 90 whilst tripping on liberty caps that I bought off an elf (the mushies not the tea)

I like my tea made by grinding coffee beans and passing them through hot water.

the irony being that no one in Japan drinks that stuff.. its all just powered green tea you add water too.. pretty much 'instant' tea. i was rather disspointed

But I do have one of these tea pots that is very good for leaf tea (gunpowder is good - Yauatcha do a very good afternoon tea if that's your bag):

Lapsang Souchong! Best winter tea ever... smoky, bit of sugar, tiny bit of milk. Tastes and smells like bonfires (it sounds dreadful, but it's actually really very good).

pepermint tea with a spoon of sugar is my staple, but i do earl gray with lemon on occasion
