Charge Plug

  • I remember seeing the charge plug racer and thinking it look decent, thought nothing more of it until I pop down to the LBS near my home and notice the handlebar;

I didn't think people would make those kind anymore!

  • a beautiful retro singlespeed machine eh

  • Had Charge put a lugged fork and probably a better stem than those butch-looking one, then probably it would be quite 'retro'.

  • "single speed"

    "MACHINE"

    :D

  • didn;t on-one do a model with those bars a few years ago? I thnk they're quite cool, short drop and splayed. good for touring too...

  • like the bars, but not on that..

  • i adhere to my opinion that charge never ever got it right from day one when they announced the plug.

  • i like my plug :( but it is slowly getting bits changed ...

  • £470 is a pretty good price point if the frame is any good...

heavy but comfortable without those relaxed geometry of the Langster, felt quite nippy around town for a comfortable bike.

you're right I think they did, I like the look of it, but it's a pity that it only came in black instead of plain metal.

  • Can you even get those bars separate from the whole bike?

  • how does one steer with the bars angled like that?

  • The brake levers are connected to an rudimentary steering system. Pull the left one to go left, that kind of thing. Bit like a tank, I understand.

yep but it's late, I'm tired so I cant remember what they're called at the moment.

in the flesh they look pretty cool

  • soma major taylors are what's closest. they're steel. don't know where you can get them from in the uk though.

  • Handy thread: I'm about to put an order/deposit on a Plug racer. Certainly don't have the luxury of try before I buy as Leisure Lakes Cheltenham are ordering it in for me. Now faced with the decision of which size to go for. Ted from Fixed Gear London suggested the medium (he's 5 6" and finds the small big) but the shop are advising me L. Have emailed Charge and waiting for their reply, but I'm guessing they'll suggest the L

From experience I'm leaning toward the medium, as I've bought big frames before (MTB tho) and wished I got them smaller. I recently fitted a On One Midge to an old Orange Gringo to make it more of a dedicated road bike and found it uncomfortable on long rides (much to my chagrin, spend over £100 doing it for nowt) so think I've got a quite upright riding style

  • Sorry, should have mentioned I'm 6 1"

  • have you seen the bars on the racer???
    hideous i tell you.
    hideous.

  • Have you seen the frame?

I'll give the bars a go, but got risers knocking about, and the afore-mentioned On-One Midge so plenty options. My bikes rarely stay stock for long

  • if you are used to MTBs, then I'd lean smaller too.. but you could always get them to order both, right?

yes 'tis a nice frame....but i live in brixton, and anything more shiny than rust gets nicked before you've even had a chance to lock it up.....so i went for the standard plug and covered it in stickers and never wash it.......and you live in cheltenham, where i once left £100 in a cash machine, and some guy came running after me to give it back. so all is well.
sometimes i miss living in cheltenham.....but not enough to move back.

  • Nice spa.

See also; Droitwich, Bath, Shoreditch (Chariots).

Cheers man. Ironically I miss living in London and am considering moving back, if I can find the right job. Different aesthetic in Cheltenham: if it's chunky alu and has some suspension they'll nick it. I'm hoping a sub-£500 fixie will attract less attention, but it won't get locked up outside much at all, and when it does for mere seconds while I do a surgical strike for bananas and mineral water

Thinking medium then, unless someone talks me out of it

  • it's a big decision. what is your inside leg?
