  • not just me chunks, everyone who has ever borrowed the damn thing too

Except me. So you're ALL muppets.

  • Cyclaire looks great!

Agreed, that it looks really handy, but I spoke to some shop staff about it, and they said it does work exactly as advertised - though its slow in operation. The technology behind it is brilliant though.

For those that don't know this item; it works by pulling the handle/cord OUT, and on the inward rewind stroke, it generates power to pump air out. No pushing involved.

  • ask Furious Tiles: he had the sweetest little pump with him yesterday at Souths. So lite and did 120 psi - he is saying its his fav new product.

  • drop-out had a little neat one the other week. no idea what it was but it was black and green i think...

  • Hey newbie post. I got myself a nice little Lezyne alloy pump which so far has done the job.

  • Welcome to the forum eightball69. Haven't you got anything to sell? JUST KIDDING.
Anyway, thats any intersting little pump you highlighted. Light too, at 90-103grams.

Cheers for welcome - no nothing to sell! I take it the board gets a few trolls on then?!

I have just purchased one on the recommendation of eightballs69
    Thanks eightballs69

I agree with others on this page, better to have the track pump at home, and this to get you to a track pump.

  • the lezyne gets you up to 30-40psi pretty easily so more than enough to get you home hopefully. It is a lovely size and fits in a handbag (should you be carrying one), man bag, (ditto) or even a pocket.

It comes with a nice attachment which still allows your bottle holder to stay on your frame (assuming you have the shame to sully your steed with such attachments)

Point to note (as i discovered on the tweed run) make sure you use the velcro attachment to secure the pump to the attachment! The clips aren't quite enough purchase. My mini pump was made even more mini by being crushed.

  • 30-40psi wouldn't get me home!!
It looks stylish - but would it get to 80+ psi?

Oh dear, bad luck about losing it. poorly designed clip.

    ....

It says >80 on the packet, and I think 80psi is doable, but not by me.
You might need to be Popeye (insert gag here etc.,) but with the attachment it is easier on the tube valve.

  • topeak are word to the mother and when i had a piece break they just sent me a new one.
    got one of these:

    and one of these:

  • Managed to get my Veloflexs up to 7.5 Bar (110 PSI) with a Crank bros Power Pump Pro over the weekend (Tip: tighten the gauge if air is escaping). Waiting for track pump to arrive, so no chioce but to use my mini pump. Great pump, shite bike attachment

  • I struggled for 2 years with a Crank brothers mini pump. After snapping two new inners at the valve stem, miles from anywhere, I threw the thing in the bushes and pushed the bike home. I then bought a Masterblaster mini track pump. Okay so its twice the length but no broken tubes and it pumps comfortably to 120psi. Wish I had bought one 2 years ago.

  • used to carry a blackburn about all the time. fed up snapping valve heads off too. got me a Co2 now, naughty but nice.

  • naughty but nice, you all over, innit.

Must admitt you need to be able to support the head well, and pump like a nutter at the same time. The removal takes a minute or two as well. I think the clamping mechanism pulls the valve in slightly, as opposed to out, like a lot of cheap lever activated clamps. Its why I like the pump, but could make it a bit valve hungry I'd imagine.

What P!MP said. Norths drinks last night was proof...the lezyne got me to 40psi as detailed. P!MP's masterblaster which is only a bit bigger allows you to pump comfortably over 100psi. Considering the larger pump would fit in my bag there wasn't any advantage in the smaller pump.

  • Anyone got any views on the Topeak Pocket Rocket DX? The review says it'll take a tyre up to 160psi but I say:

    a) that's silly because why/when would you need or try for 160psi?
    b) 'if' it will do 160, how easy is it to do 100/110?

  • I finally bought a mini pump for myself, im well happy with it.
Its a Specialised Airtool Road, I got it for €12 which is quite good, its a long shafted skinny pump, longer than most but it pumped up my armadillo to full pressure(I recon) quite easily.
I havent used my track pump since I got it; on both bikes.
It only fits Presta valves which will suit most of us anyway.
EDIT: It also comes with one of those under-bottle cage holders aswell as a couple of instant rapair patches in the handle.

If you're time trialling on the track and you're trying to buy speed in every way, e.g. setting a record--it's high-end stuff. I don't think anyone would run that sort of pressure on the road, but time triallists quite often go higher than 120 psi, AFAIK. It works for super narrow TT tyres.

I see! But with a mini-pump? Is the Topeak Pocket Rocket really that capable? I have my doubts...

  • they make pumps??!!! I have been using my mouth and lungs all this time.

Only above ground. Carry on with what you're doing. :)
