long live E5
lived there for 3yrs, only problem was that i was so green, mugged once but it was all good in the end I managed to talk him out of it.
Main problem I had was my next door neighbour. I lived in 32 QueensDown Road E5. I had to move during the night as I was attacked by my next door nieghbour and his dad. The son was called John, the Dad called Bob. They are both white from South London. Moved to E5 and play Reggae out the front of their flat next to my flat. Which is fine but they are both MAD perverts and don't take no for any answer. They came to my flat wielding a knife demanding favours. My boyfriend from Belfast stormed out and did some brave digging but he is only 5'7 and sexy lean build. But he was a hero, but lost in the end. So if any fixies riding by throw some bricks or mud at the flat which is to the left of number 32. They also stole my car and two bikes. They also spend their time jerking off to sunbathers (when there any daring enough) with Binoculars behind dirty old curtains.
My best advice, pretend you have city syndrome when in danger it freaks anyone out. Otherwise I think it is all good in that area, just like any in London. Dont go near any irish gypsie sites like Homerton, Clapton and near Queensdown Park. They will steal your eyeballs, and I am Irish and I do know. -

Soth London is the PITS, rise up the North. So all is good in that area.

I love threads like this. It's just like being in a wine bar in Hertfordshire but instead of a load of middle class middle aged suits trying to prove how much better Hemel Hampstead is than Potters Bar or Welwyn garden city and visa versa it's Hackney vs Brixton by a load of middle class urbanites.

middle class yourself tommy, but I dont think I would consider myself a middle class urbanite, rather fucking poor, below the breadline poor but happy as pooch. I do hope that London fixed riders are not what you describe, I have not met any yet and I don't believe they are. Just cos you got a nice bike, some cool locks, a touch of human decency...aaaahhhh, yes your right are you not. But what if your on the dole and stealing from Tescos, going to art school, (no grant) and srawing on the street. That is my plans anyway.

drawing on the street !!!! thank goodness for being able to draw pictures !!!!

Yes I would expect I would be catorgised as middle class.
Don't worry I'm only taking the piss out of the silly things people do without realizing it.

I just got back from North London.. found that Highgate West hill place and I even found The Flask (might have to visit norf drinks now - ah shit).
The ratio of BMWs and Minis though is fucking well higher than west London which clearly means any hill training I'd imagined will quickly be ruined due to the cunts that will soon be returning from their long weekend trips away.. sigh -

Don't waste time with Highgate West - like you said, too much traffic/too many parked cars.
Swains Lane is parallel to it (go right at the rdbt at the bottom of HW), and Muswell Hill has no speed bumps, plus a bus lane all the way up, which for the most part is bus free.

Lived in Dalston for 3 years and have never had any trouble - actually the best place we've lived in over here (after getting bored of Tufnell Park and Stoke Newington).
If anything my only worry is that it's getting too gentrified. Luckily the Shackelwell Lane area of Dalston is definitely not as bad as Victoria Park Village (which looks like Chelsea) or Broadway Market (full of Shoreditch scenester twats). In Dalston you still have lots of Turkish, Jewish and Afro shops - and it looks like they're there to stay (not getting priced out by trendy cafes).
Just don't leave your fancy bikes locked outside on Kingsland Road or Dalston Lane though.
Bits of Homerton still look a bit rough n ready though. But I'd rather have that sort of roughness than a shithole like Camden Town etc. ;)

I have a feeling they wont be there long! http://dalstonjunction.co.uk/ http://opendalston.blogspot.com/ etc.

Unfortunately it looks like alot of bankers might be moving into that particular area (around Dalston tube) - given the close proximety to Canary Wharf and/or the City.
However, I think the shops slightly further up Kingsland Road (north of the junction) are owned by the Turkish community (peeps who have been on the scene for ages). I just don't hope they sell up and bugger off.
If it turns into yet another hateful Tory hole like Victoria Park or London Fields then I'm moving further east, hehe.

I lived in Bow which was a gated community so hard to tell what that area was like, sunny Dalston which was great for socialising and going out lots and now Lower Clapton which is my favourite of the lot. You have London's countryside on your doorstep in Hackney Marshes, feels quite safe and feels like an area on the up.

Haha. Well there is that to it but it actually feels alright over that way... The canals and other areas are great for cycling and running. Honest.

YES YES YES Hackney Marshes, the canal path, actually Lower Clapton is the best. And you never need to use Hackney central. I used to have small fires in Hackney Marsh and cook potatoes in foil in the fire, with a carry-out of cool beer, (kept cool byt the dirty stream) More problems in Dalston, stokie, Downs, in comparison Clapton is ok. You do get asked to join 3 somes should you vsist a late night shop at the top of Cricklewood Rd though. Homerton hospital is ok too for minor emergencies, and sure you can get all the way to Islington by th Canal if you wanna ride down Pentonville. YES I SAY CLAPTON> pick your neighbours carefully if you can, the houses have thin walls and bullets can go through them is did to one poor person in a late night showdown. The neighbour was killed sitting watching TV. The party goer survived.
