@whatfriends - it's highly likely that your awareness regarding food stems, at least to some extent, from your history of chronic illness. It seems to be part of the human condition to only attain true empathy/deeper understanding after you've experienced something personally... unless you're some kind of saint.
I'm also assuming you're an adult. I too choose not to patronise junk food outlets, but I'm not struggling under the weight of peer pressure that so many young teenage people fall prey to as they all rush off for the lunchtime chicken and chips fix.
Thankfully, judging by the contributions on this thread, there are plenty of people with the knowledge and will to become/continue being positive role models and 'food mentors'.
