Just had a refreshing experience this evening. Was nipping into the offies to break a tenner so I could give a fiver to edmundane for a rim. There were two young lads in there on Halfords death traps and they were totally amazed by my bike. They couldn't fathom it at all and started asking all these desperate and awe-filled questions like "how fast does it go?" "why does have no gears?" "could it beat my bike in a race?" "can it do tricks?" "how do you fit your feet on those tiny pedals (spd's)?" They were so fascinated I stuck around for a bit chatting to them about fixed wheel bikes explaining some of the hows and whys. Hopefully inspired them to not go for the shiny 73 geared grip shift nasties next time they want a bike for christmas.
