Thanks, Jos. If I was in a position to buy a bike, I'd consider it. It'd be perfect for a full mudguarded, possibly racked, 25/28c, fixed, audaxy, not too STEAL ME!, commuter, especially when I no longer need to do the childseat thing.
But for the immediate future, I think I'll have to stick with this:
