I find the BBC coverage pretty good, especially with the red button coverage - at least you can choose which sport to watch.
it's definitely better than the aussie channel 7 coverage, which according to my mates at home consists of endless montages of days-old swimming results, plus a bit of gymnastics sandwiched between ad breaks. almost nothing is live, and if there's no aussie winning a medal then it's just not getting shown. they have no multi-channel or web streaming. sounds completely shit.
apart from the unavoidable jingoism i reckon the beeb coverage has been pretty ace.

I think the red button business has made all the difference.
No such thing last time I watched Olympics on channel 7 . -

Fucking hell, how fast is this man? Or how good are his drugs?
-

I can get good drugs, but I doubt I'd even finish 200m

"At the end we all just looked at each other in shock, I mean what can you say about Usain's run? Unbelievable. For me, I didn't run particularly great and I didn't really give myself a chance on the bend. Still, I'll take the good from these finals - I'm injury-free for one - and I can get better than this. Usain will have a bad day some time and I'm improving, so I'm looking forward to next season."

bolt actually ran hard all the way to the line. he was only winning by about 15m. he did manage to break Michael Johnson's world record of 19.32, by running 19.30. into a headwind.
holy fucking shit that is fast. i thought that record was untouchable. this guy is just at a different level to everyone else, it's like watching a man racing against children.
-

I think that's the same in every country, no?
no. there's way broader coverage here.
Fair enough to be a bit parochial, but even with the live stuff, the way they jump about gives you no sense of narrative to the competition. Commercials every 2 mins doesn't help either.- they keep using the 'word' phenom. As in: "Phelps is now the winningest (ugh) Olympian ever. The man is a phenom."

dale, hooker is vaulting in the qualifying rounds right now. i'm watching it on eurosport.
nobody seems to be able to clear a height. the comp is going to go really late at night, no idea why they started so late... -
• #994
Amazing run. What I dont get is why sprinters all think they are gangsters?

did they loose more poles?!? -
• #996
dunno, but everyone is jumping like muppets.
[edit] a few blokes are clear at 5.65m now, including Hooker. Burgess is clear at 5.55 and has one miss at 5.65.
GB's Steve Lewis no-heighted and is out. I've been out drinking with him a couple of times and he's a funny bloke. Shame he didn't jump well.

no chance of him going for the record big time tonight..... too much to lose in potential future cash payouts at invitation meets

cos it's fucking easy breaking one of the most untouchable records in sport, into a headwind, after running 8 rounds over 5 days, and deliberately doing it by only a couple of hundreds of a second. which is about the time it takes you to blink.
i'm sure that he was thinking "i'm going too fast, better ease off a bit so i only break it a litle bit..."
yeah, right.

Pole vaulting is probably the only sport you do that with. You can't decide to 'only just' break a world record.
[edit - beaten to it. only just]
