looks like shinny crashed or had a problem in the first seeding run but posted the fastest time of the second run, puts her in 2nd place behind anne-caro...

  • She crashed on the first bank for her 1st run. Bit of elbow grazing is all. She did good in the second run.

French lass did fastest time in 1st run but crashed in the second (she did a great endo to face plant). She was looking good though and reckon she might take it.

  • I thought Bourgaine just shut it down because he knew he was beaten?
Maybe I'm thinking of another race.. I'd probably lost interest by then :)
All I cared about was Anna getting a medal.

  • I see Australia have fallen to 5th in the medals table and are dropping further behind GB as each day passes ;)

  • RPM gonna post another 'pom bashing' link now?

  • More shame for the Aussies I'm afraid. Not only can they not beat us at winning, they also can't beat us at losing.

  • right, i was a bit combative last night, and i apologise to anyone i offended. but i still reckon hoy's performances raise suspicion. maybe he really is that good, but watching other "clean" heroes like marion jones, tim montgomery and justin gatlin fall from grace has made me a cynic.

i also realise the impossibility of proving someone is not a cheat.

I think your comments reflect the reality of sport these days, namely that a win at all costs attitude often leads people down the path of using performance enhancing drugs. Those of us who follow professional cycling know that doping is institutionalised and we suspect that everyone is on it, even those who ride for teams with an independent monitoring program in place.

I doubt very much that the GB cycling team has a doping program in place but given their utter dominance I can understand why people are suspicious.

In Chris Hoy's defence, he has been very vocal in his criticism of those who dope and has said he is prepared to undertake any test you like to prove he is clean. That doesn't sound like someone with something to hide.

Err, have a look at the ladder on the right, you penis.

Here's the BBC video of her crash and her second run. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/cycling/7571581.stm

  • Yep, we're on equal 4 each but we've got less people to do it with.

We rock at losing and only Canada can take it away from us.

    Them and 5 other countries.

Fair enough. The point I was trying to make is simply that the level of scrutiny over doping is probably higher now than it ever has been, and that Hoy, because of having broken so many records, has probably been singled out for particularly close attention.

Plus I think there would be a certain amount of peer pressure within Team GB to be clean because of the level of scrutiny there will inevitably be on their success.

As for the full-time amateur thing - erm, you're making the mistake of confusing your own classification for the formal classification. Team GB trained full-time, and were given 25k pa stipends. I'm not sure any other country basically gave their athletes enough money that they wouldn't have to work. But they're still classed as amateur for the Games.

As I said elsewhere, there have already been dark mutterings about the level of GB funding, and it wouldn't surprise me if there's a debate over what counts as amateur/professional between now and 2012.

  • dont think you can judge track sprints by their winning margins. there's psych factor there. some pull up as soon as they're passed. anyway, good to see hoy win, he seems an alright down to earth nice guy. it'll be more sus if it was won by some overcompetitive cocky pricks (eg ricco/cavendish*)

saw bit of bbc interviewing some aussies re getting beaten in the olympics + some news print on the same thing. why does the media feel that they need to go out of their way and check up on aussie reactions? seems like blatant gloating to me. so the big wind up is not just happening here. sometimes it is not enough beating the world is it?

anyway, seen it all before (ashes/rugby). doesnt take long for the brits to turn on their own. as RPM demonstrated yesterday on the madison + nimbles vs andyp. even funnier to watch unfold. happens all the time :)

*dont think he's drugged. just dont like him. i see him as the c ronaldo of cycling

  • I wasn't trying to attack the riders though, I was aiming questions at the organisation.

it doesn't matter now anyway, they obviously didn't take the right drugs

  • 'nuff said....

  • Legend.

  • Superb. Did you invite her out for a drink too Steve?

  • you da man steves!

  • Superb. Did you invite her out for a drink too Steve?

    Still working on that one!

    She loved the shirt though!

  • Cool

  • Are you really tall or is she quite short or a bit of both?

  • That's fucking great, Steve! Bag me one of her old saddles, would ya? And nab one of Becky's for RPM... ;)

  • Bit of both - she's quite small.... Shes really nice - did a great interview then apologised for being so out of it cos shed been doing loads of media and been out on the piss with Chris Hoy et al - not eaten or slept since she won.....the epitomy of htfu!
