Herne Hill

  • Just been looking into trying out Herne Hill velodrome on Saturday (as this is the only Saturday I'll be able to have off once I start work next week.) Apparently you have to do an induction before you're allowed to ride there, and they only do inductions on saturday mornings. What's it like those who have been before?

  • ^ yeah, forgot bout that, cheers

  • i'm gonna go down not sure if i'll ride down from Stepney or be lazy and get the train though as it sounds like it'll be a bit of a killer, my fitness isn't great at the moment, haven't been able to ride since may. who's going to be there on saturday, would be cool to meet some new folk after just moving to London village.

  • hopefully me- from 10:30.

  • ^ ok eyebrows if you see a tall guy with a beard and a red short sleeve jersey (probably grazed and sweating profusely) come say hi. i'll be on one of their lender bikes. I don't have any bike shorts, not a huge fan of lycra and i don't want to buy a pair just for the day, you think it's ok just to wear normal combat shorts?

  • will be wearing boardies + on loaner bike
Make sure to get there on time for the induction- if it is raining- take the lie in, there won't be any riding.
    it is fun,

  • nice one hopefully see you saturday

  • Me too, though cool isn't a word i'd use to describe myself.....

  • yup stepney is a heck of a long way from herne hill, if you take provisions tent etc you could probably do it in a couple of days

  • ^ i know it'll only take me about an hour at the most but i've only just moved here and don't know my way round at all, don't want to get lost and miss the induction/kill myself if i'll be riding all day at the track. I fear shouts of HTFU may be due.

  • Or bunk up at 56 Half Moon Lane like this fella - Tommy Godwin - did at the 1948 Olympics, and eat spam fritters for breakfast as part of your training routine.

  • Mmmmmm... spam !
I'll be there... Weather dependent (as ever)
Hopefully will have my own bike this time. New 15T cog being fitted Friday.
Will keep an eye out for the one hawking the shiny items

  • had a great day on saturday, didn't get too lost riding down from stepney, wasn't as drastically unfit as i thought i might be. met some sound folk. i hope i'll be able to get some saturdays off again in the future so i can go again. damn the guys down there are fast tho.

  • didn't meet you man..

I was there at 1030 for sessions 3 and 4

  • ^ i was there till about half 11. i was wearing a red jersey and a white skate type helmet. do you go each week?

  • yeah, I think I saw you..
me: rollapaluza team jersey and tattoo sleeves. I try to go each week..

will miss this week as I'm on holiday in the cuntry :(

the weather has been a bug recently.

  • yeah i did see you. i'm hoping i can get down sometime in the future, working in retail kind of rules out getting saturdays off tho. i'll say hi if i see you next time

  • hi to both of you. I was the tall man in the white Rapha shirt lending everyone his pedal spanner.

Wasn't it great?? I'm really unfit though....

  • ^ yeah it was great, had my first day at work today and have just had it confirmed that i shall never have a saturday off again, bum :( hopefully there'll be other days i can come down. did you get your spanner back in the end then?

  • Yeah, did thanks, already looking at buying a track bike, apparently they'll store it for you down there for £30 a year....
