the number of times i've heard BBC commentators gleefully saying "This is great to see the Aussies get beaten" is pretty pathetic. it's particularly bad in the swimming. fair enough if you're cheering for an underdog like Coventry from Zimbabwe or similar (although she is an excellent swimmer with a suspiciously american accent), but it's pretty lame when you're cheering for an American or Chinese purely because you want the Aussie to lose...
it's poor sportsmanship to cheer for someone to lose on the basis of their nationality (especially if you don't have someone in the event).
