  • i just broked some brand new £140 raybans. FAIL

  • you could go get some new rave cast offs for a fiver at the bottom of berwick st in the hippy shop, they even sell cylon type ones with the red led going back n forth

  • I want low tint/clearish ones:

    • to stop my eyes watering in the cold air, or when I'm doing more than 40mph downhill.
    • to protect my eyes from particles, insects, or grit thrown up by traffic. There are cases of lost eyesight amongst cyclists, and I know someone who suffered pretty severe ocular trauma out on the road.
    • to enhance contrast so that I've got more chance of making out road irregularities at speed in suspect/changeable light coditions.
    • to stop me squinting, or my eyes drying out, giving me pensioner's eyes in my boyish face :p

I s'pose it could turn into one of those helmet debate type threads...

What tint is best rose, yellow or clear

I want some for the above reasons but I also kinda want to see where I am going

  • well.. colour doesnt matter with the first two.

i used to ride yellow lenses in low-light, and orange in normal light... was ace

Only about a year late, but I was actually asking lpg. :D

  • I was looking and they was saying red for racing so whats that about then

  • These are cool I like these ones

I replied the day after the OP. What are you quoting me for? (although generally it's sound practice)

I liked my red/rose tinted ones the best, but they're long gone. If I had money to burn (still not got a job) I'd wanted some prescription photochromic lenses, where the tint was red. That would be great.

I mainly use contact lenses for training rides anyway, and am currently using £6 Bolle safety sunglasses with a barely noticable brown tint, heavier at the top. Seem alright.

  • Decathlon

  • Decathlon are you fucking having a laugh that place is shite

BMMF why is red good ?

  • i wear some safety glasses i got with my dremel. i wear them cause the cold salty air plays havoc with my eyes and i get styes which is pretty irritating.

i find that alot of sunglasses block most of the air, but also channel it at a higher pressure into your eyes, so the shape/size is pretty important.

i get some wierd looks when i forget im wearing the safety glasses and walk around with them on.

  • TopMan or H&M for cheap fashion glasses, or for sports, crack on to Decathlon, it aint shite and the stuff is cheap.

BMMF why is red good ?

Maybe I just like red cos of my name :S

Well, from experience, they definitely increase contrast, making it easier to spot deformations in the road surface, and generally seem to turn up the brightness in low light conditions. I'm sure someone could explain why this happening with regards to the light spectrum and filtering and stuff.

I also found the rose lenses the most cheery on a gloomy day; moreso than yellow and orange. And they make anything red coloured go mentally fluorescent :)

Compared to orange and yellow, they look a bit less geeky too.

They seemed perfect as an all-rounder for the Northern European Climate.

This is getting me all moist now, and great incentive for getting a job again so that I can 'splash out' on some new eyewear ;)

  • I bought these recently because I want to be like Cancellara. They dont work though Im still slow as shit, look the part though.

I love the Gregory's, real weakness of mine can never have enough.

  • Thanks to titanium temples, space-age construction and featherweight lenses, Specialized's Arc glasses weigh a mere 17 grams so you won't even know you have them on! Plus, they feature Specialized's Adaptalite lenses, which automatically adapt to the conditions, getting darker as it's brighter and vice versa. And they provide 100-percent UVA and UVB protection no matter what light you're in. And, the lenses are light, ultra strong and virtually unbreakable

BMMF I am looking at these on American e-bay they seem to hit all the right buttons incidently I tend to wear pink tinted raybans when its sunny which I can only put down to a mispent youth taking class A drugs the world really does looks better through rose tinted glesses

  • I never got on with red tint shades and used yellow for years. Now I've moved on to a very light grey tint. I probably should just go clear and be done with it. No good in the mornings with the sun shining in my face though. I got my last two pairs from probikekit.

  • I was vaguely aware of those Specialized jobbies. Will see if they're still in production whenever the fuck I get a job again.

+1 for mispent (sic) youth taking class As. But if you want to cultivate decent rose tinted glasses, you've got to stare through dung-tinted ones first.

  • cheap and cheerful polarised lenses, (almost) oakley optics for £20ish.

  • Are they any good?

  • I don't like full frame glasses for cycling as the bit around the bottom blocks out some of your peripheral vision.

  • Smiling-Buddha go to an optician and try different lenses. I don't think anyone can recommend lenses for you as it will depend on how your eyes absorb light. A couple of pair of glasses is a good idea for different weather conditions.
