how exactly does an inverse shim work? would that not raise the hight of the stem?
i've thought about it, and physics is telling me that that an inverse shim is the same as a left handed screwdriver, or a reverse hammer.

don't need to machine out, there is a slit on either side and can be opened up to fit. -

yep but you can use a height reducer as well to compensate.

it'll stretch that much? seems a little too much, won't it just sheer, or snap a bolt, thus forcing me to hump the pavement?

Surly steamroller frame and forks, cane creek headset. 53 cm. Decals removed, In pretty good nick, coupla scratches from locking up but nothing major, at the moment has a pretty new Sugino bottom Bracket in as I can't find my tool. £170
Cinelli alter stem, 1 inch in red and Yellow, coupla scratches, £10
Nitto courier flatbars, chopped to 38cm, £5 or Cider.
Nitto B123 CrMo flat bar 42cm with clear champ grips on, Few small scratches from being leaned against stuff £25.
