honestly. We're adults and it's up to our own discression whether we wear a helmet or not. I wear one when in mass starts or on the track where it's manditory. I wear it if i am extremely tired or know I have a very long ride ahead of me where I may bonk.
If I had worn it when I smashed my face I would have broken my neck (according to maxiofacial)
On the other hand I would never be comfortable letting my mom ride without one..and they do help avoid injury in more cases than not.
But then again motorists tend to give wider birth to cyclists without helmets...
People who blindly demand you wear a helmet ignore the fact that we are have common sense and the ability to judge our own skill and competence on a bike.
If you're concerned wear a freakin helmet... don't ask people about it.
