Are different tyres needed for winter cycling?

  • simple. first time cycling in non tropical climate.

    recommendations would be good too.

  • I'd say yes, but I'm sure others would disagree...

In the city rain washes all kinds of shite towards the kerb.

For me it's Armadildos in the winter, Rubino Pros in "summer".

  • I run these
    just incase.

  • Just in case what?

  • ^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I used to work for the studio that did that!!!
I did some nice designs, and some junior did this and it go chosen!
I was then asked to help them photoshop the umbrella in!! ha ha ha

  • I use the same tyres winter/summer. Rubino Pros
I do like Armadillos though for their crazy durability.

  • I have some Panaracer Pasela (white/beige) for the winter, got more aggressive grip pattern for the crap on the roads.

True, Rubino Pros are pretty much perfect.
If only you could get them for a tenner or so, that would be even sweeter.

  • be even better if they were free.

    but hey.

  • I think I'll get some of those schwalbe marathon plusses like what ma3k had on his roller, 28c might not fit my fork, but I want something untouchable this winter. got a lot of dirty weather to deal with and potentially a lot of work miles.

I just use tire liners front+rear in the winter... works out fine, no flats :) (a bit of a harsh ride though).

Mmmm three of them, black and white and rotting in a cupboard for the rest of their lives...

  • Bitch.

  • In fact, I think I might use them.. they'd be good for holding down the guttering on the flat.. :)

  • Rubino Pros - I'm a convert... or is that a conversion?

They fucking yellow more than Vredestien Tricomps though. Not that I care.

15 years, eh. I still can't believe it...

  • I've used my Bontrager racelite hardcases since September last year (autumn, winter, spring and summer). 4,000 miles+ and only had 2 P's, not bad for tenner a tyre. Plus, they're super grippy in the wet. Not good for skidding though.

I'm persistent enough to wear anyone down. :)

I've got some nice black and white ones I'm going to let age in a dank cupboard before binning.. just to annoy this addie chap :)

    15 years???

  • Sorry - I was just writing it down to help it sink in. Me and Faith have been together 15 years as of yesterday. Which also means me and the Elmore (the cat) have been together 15 years.

That's almost as long as a bottle of Lagavulin matures, for fuck's sake.
