Why rear brake only? If they managed to remove the forks, surely they would have had to remove the quill stem...Did they not take the handlebars as well?...

I think the fact it doesn't have a brake in the front wheel made it a LOTS easier for the theft to steal the saddle really.
Saddle? piece of piss to removed, just get an old chain round it and bingo, adden security that'd put some theft off attempting to remove it.
