  • From the picture I would say that that is a throw away bike

    a) it looks rattle can paint jobed over the stem and bars, a cheap way to mask a stolen bike
    b) the second warning sign to me would be the use of said ABUS expensive lock with that bike
    c) Your bike is an easy mark being the very popular and easy to identify Bianchi chrome pista

    I would put money on it being a theif's prop used for exactly the scam we have discussed about locking to an expensive bike.

    I would cut the lock and lock their bike with yours when you leave. Put a note on the bike with your number. If it's legit, they loose one link off their chain lock (cut responsibly near the lock) and are embarassed and will learn to be careful. If its a theif they won't call you and in a day or two you can release the bike and feel no oblligation.
