i agree except for the part about locking their bike back up with your lock.
if it is dodgy they'll cut your lock off the bait-bike just to spite you for blowing their plans. then you've essentially wasted two decent locks (potential value £200+) for the sake of making safe one crappy old beater (potential value £30) that was probably stolen and only being used as bait anyway.
of course if it is a genuine mistake then... harsh but fair i'd say. can't you get hold of some £5 pos halfords lock and leave the junk bikle locked up with that? that or just leave it unlocked with a note i say.
