  • also best if you're not a balding bespectacled middle aged gent with his lycra shorts pulled up to the armpits, is to wear a nice tweed jacket and pipe. if you go in looking like a curryer, they'll treat u like dirt.

Reckon they'll spot an "out of towner" and do me up the wrong 'un? (do they charge extra for that down there?!) or is the service pretty good?

  • service is hit in miss in there. most of the time they don't even know what they have and they scurry up and down to the basement.

  • The prices are fixed and written on the bikes aren't they. Don't see how they could rip you off. Just talk them down once you've agreed on what you want.

  • well, reports about the service is mixed, but i think generally if you're ordering a bike they have to be attentive and nice, really. if you're just in there slavering over a new spoke, like DB, then they probably don't have so much time for you.

personally i found the service pretty good.

if i were you i would stress the fact i was traveling a long way just to go there, and expect a bit of looking after.

Done. Man you are on fine form....ta

  • Pistaboy, you should also look at Cavendish Bikes just down the road, they will be able to put something nice together for you for the same sort of money as a Condor, maybe a Bob Jackson or an IRO? Putney Cycles will also put a real nice looking Bob together for you for anywhere upwards of £800. Do not bother with the Willier, IMO it's dull, slung together with fairly low end parts and overpriced.

Personally I would go for a Bob with mid/low end parts and the very best wheels you can buy and upgrade the other bits when they break or money allows.

Do not bother with Brick Lane Bikes either, unless you enjoy paying to be raped.

  • ^^Cheers benanza - this is the kind of advice i'm looking for. :-)

  • No worries dude.

The money that you want to spend gets you into quite an interesting range of possibilities, take a bit of time and go for some rides. And speak to Simon at Putney Cycles if you do go there, it's a great shop and he'll sort you out something special!

  • Quality. I'm cruising down that way this weekend. Much Kudos to your good self.

  • get a light blue makino.
