Creaky chainring bolts

  • My drivetrain creaks. It does it every time I change from pedalling forwards to using back-pressure on the pedals and vice versa. Basicall every single time I accelerate or brake.

By a process of elimination, I've narrowed it down to my chainring bolts. I've tried removing them, greasing the threads and then tightening them up as far as they can go and that did help reduce the noise by quite a bit. However, they still make a slight creaking sound and it really bugs me.

    Any suggestions?

  • I spent months labouring under the impression that the bolts supplied with my official NJS official certified NJS Sugino 75 crank arms were hand-made by ninjas and QC'd by samurai and it was my inexperience and crap chainring spanner action that caused them to loosen.

Nope just shit bolts. Ison distribution stainless steel jobs sorted me out.

  • make sure you have the right size bolts

  • Make sure to use the special spanner to hold the back of the bolt as you Allen key them from the front...
