Google 'free proxy server' and see what you get. Something like this, maybe:

theres thousands of websites that give you millions of location specific proxies.
But they almost always have very little bandwidth and are heavily used by many people.
So using a free proxy found on the net, to stream video is unlikeley to work.
I am sure japan's national TV network has olympic coverage too. If you dont understand it, then try USA etc?

the US companies are the same as the UK... need to be a resident.
rather annoying really, as was hoping this would mean i could get the bbciplayer to work, and watch Canadian icehockey coverage... alas..
thanks for the help anyway..

So do I need to find a proxy site in the US and the surf from that site to CMT...?
-

my understanding is.... you need to use a us proxy, in your web browser settings... then their website thinks you are in the US, and will let you see their stuff.
i think

try using tor - tor.eff.org - but depending on the time of day will be slow whilst all those anonymous people download porn.

ABC started their streaming service on their website today. Users from the USA are able to watch episodes of Lost, Desperate Houswives, Alias and others right from the website. Unfortunatly they check your IPs origin and decline access if the whois turns out to be from outside the USA. But as always, there is a way around this restriction.
This is slighty complex but you should get used to the procedure. All you need is a http proxy that is hosted inside the USA and does not spill your IP address. To achieve this you need a application that checks proxy servers for those variables. I recommend Charon for this task but you could use other tools as well.
http://www.project2025.com/charon.phpDownload Charon from the website mentioned, you don´t need to install it at all, just extract the contents to a directory of your choice.
Fire it up, you have no proxy list yet so you could use google to find some lists or let charon do that for you. Simply select Check Proxies and then Scan Search Engines for new Proxies. Charon will find some proxies that are then displayed in the table. Those are unverified, now select Check Proxies and Check Anonymity of all Proxies. This might take some time. If you only recieve bad and timeouts you have to change one option in charon.
Select Connect Options and chose Use External Judge(s).
Let it test the proxies. If you have enough good ones or a finished test sort the proxies by the Country tab. Only USA proxies are working so we need one of those. The Anonymity tab should state YES. If both are correct right click the line and select Copy to clipboard and Copy selected IP:Port.
Open your browser and paste the proxy address into its proxy settings. For firefox you select Tools >> Options >> Connection Settings >> Manual Proxy Configuration and add the proxy and port there. Close the options and visit the abc streaming site. If you see a Launch button you are ready to enjoy the tv shows. If not try another proxy from the list.
I checked the service with this proxy and it worked flawlessly: 192.104.67.250 port:8080Like this...?

I've been trying to use proxies to watch US based music videos, but like DFP said they have so little bandwidth I was unable to even stream a 3 min video, let alone an olympic set from iPlayer...
http://proxy.org/ lists a set of proxy sites on the right with their country of origin if you want to give it a go, but chances are it won't work.
There are other ways of 'changing' your IP though, give it a google...

Read this http://kimmo.suominen.com/docs/proxy-through-ssh/
and then search for free shh account or free shell account in the required country. That should work. I've done similar but already had the shell account so I don't know the restrictions on free ssh accounts. I think you should get better results witht his than using the free proxy services as the free proxys are so over run.

I'm a Habs supporter.
And by supporter, I mean, if I was asked who I would like to win, I'd say Montreal. But if you made me watch every game in a season, I would want to kill myself.
