Ive never understood the concept of a 'single speed scene' In a sport where gears are a necessity such as XC mountain biking, people riding SS are doing something different enough to separate it as a scene.
In terms of riding about nippy bikes around the city, what difference do gear ratios or freewheels make?
Where I am, Im very lucky to see anyone else on a bike. If I happen to see anyone whos NOT riding a broken mtb on the pavement, Im a little awestruck and try to say hello.
