Old Bike ID

Posted on
  • I went to see my parents yesterday and my Dad said he had an old bike in the garage. He pulled this out, but I have no idea what era it is from or who made it. I wondered if you guys could ID it for me?

The only marking on it was 8825 77 stamped under the BB.

  • it's an old bike :)

  • oscc

  • Lovely handlebars!

  • anything marked on the bottom bracket shell

  • anything marked on the bottom bracket shell

The stamp was on the BB, in small text, in-line with the down tube. With it written in 2 lines

    8825
    77

  • those are really old bars dude. the lugs are pretty old school toolike 30s or 40s . The bb stamp would indicate 1977 but that doesn't seem quite right to me. Pump pegs fit with the 30s - 40s guess. Do you have pic of the fork crown. I really dig looking at old bikes and fork crowns can give a good indicator. It looks a bit BSA to me.. but what do the cranks say?? Pm me if you prefer.

  • I think the cranks say CROSS in them. I have been told the barakes are Gb hiduminium, and the pedals are Phillips sport.

  • check all the components for clues.

Derailiuers are easy to recognise & date.

  • hey, cool. we should do an antiques roadshow kind of thing, at the drinks. people could bring along their old shed finds, and we could get into drunken fights about what it was and how much it was worth. whaddya think?

the idea came to me from the london fields bbq - horatio (I think) was fixing some passer-by's bike. A little old woman (on a bike) came up to me to ask why there were so many cyclist gathered, i told her we were guerilla bike mechanics and we'd service her bike if she hung around for a bit.

she made her excuses and scarpered.
