Bull horns. Similar position to being on the hoods and with the flat section you have options for where to put your hands - like with drops.
And they're BRAKES! Unless they're broken... -

Or just ride where the hood/brakes would have been, sort of just on the down section of the drops. Depending on the shape of the bars this an excellent position for me. It's very comfortable and a nice halfway spot between tops and drops, useful when you want to get out of the saddle.

I'm thinking of getting nitto bars for my build and I think getting a front bmx style brake is the most aesthetically pleasing choice. But... I ride pretty much exclusively on the hoods on my road bike, I'm guessing getting that type of bar and hoods (only one lever) would be a travesty?
Any of you have any suggestions other than man up and ride the drops?
cheers
I put hoods on my conversion because I prefer them and find them more aesthetically pleasing. I nicked the gearless ones off my gf's decomissioned cross bike.
However, you should get into riding on the drops as well. They are there for a reason.
BTW - Bars and *WHAT*?

I prefer to take my breaks in bars, not on them.

sorry, wasn't thinking, I typed it right in the actual post...meh
it's going to be a classical style bike, I've got an old A F Mills frame so there will be drops and no bull horns but I can see where you've coming from
I suspect just manning up to it will be the way to go

How about some of those nobby things that replace a brake or brakes if you're fixed? Can't remember what they called but they'd be well 'simpatico' with a classic bike... Usually you see one, with a normal brake (front) on the other bar.
