depends how tall your ceilings are but the cheap n nasty (i found they required extra drilling to fit together and entirely seperate nuts cos those provided made everything rattly) "sunny wheel" pulley systems work pretty well.
i don't really see how mounting a bike on a wall gives you much more space than it resting against the same wall.
with the pulleys though i only have slight strangle risk during drunken staggers through my hall rather than expensive bike damage risk.
