Ugh, what a nightmare. Those little f*ckers. I mostly blame their parents... some people really shouldn't be allowed to breed.
I hate going through life being suspicious and untrusting all the time, but stories like this show we have no choice.
The other day I was trying to teach myself (very unsuccessfully) how to do a trackstand). Some guys that were hanging outside my neighbor's house started shouting advice at me, and eventually, one of them offered to demonstrate how it's done. It was a bit of a dilemma... on the one hand, letting a random stranger take the helm of your bicycle isn't the best idea. But on the other hand, perhaps he was genuinely trying to help, and it'd be rude to refuse. In the end, I let him have a go... but I made sure to stand directly in front of him and the bike at all times, within a couple meters. I figured, worst comes to worst, I can always tackle him like that NYPD cop.
Fortunately, there was no need for me to tackle him, he didn't try to ride off into the sunset with my bike. Perhaps because the fixed-gear thing threw him for a loop.
